On January 6, according to Taiyuan University of technology, the China Textile Industry Federation issued the notice on publishing the list of textile industry innovation platforms in 2021. The school of light and textile engineering of Taiyuan University of technology is one of the 22 universities with the right to grant master's degree in textile science and engineering. The team focused on the research of polyester and cotton fabrics, which accounted for more than 80% of textiles, and focused on the theoretical and practical problems in the process of transforming low-value waste textiles into high-value products. With the implementation of domestic waste classification and "double carbon" strategy, the research team focused on the comprehensive utilization of waste textiles, Recycling of waste textiles has become an important part of sustainable development and green manufacturing of textile industry.

In recent years, with the continuous efforts of a group of young doctors, mainly Dr. Shi Sheng, the team has made a series of important achievements and research progress. In 2020, the number of patent rights ranked the second in scientific research institutions, enterprises and institutions in China. A number of invention patents and research achievements were put into practice and participated in drafting the first and second national standards in the field of waste textiles in China, The development plan of waste textile industry in many places and large enterprises including Taiyuan in Shanxi, Mianyang in Sichuan and Jieshou in Anhui Province has been formulated, which has been in the first echelon of comprehensive utilization of waste textiles.
