Because of the different storage time and uneven management level of imported cotton, the risk of imported cotton carrying storage pests is very high.

< p > recently, the Zhangjiagang inspection and Quarantine Bureau, in conjunction with the external pest monitoring work in 2013, according to the business characteristics and risk analysis of the epidemic situation, organized relevant departments to jointly carry out the imported cotton epidemic monitoring investigation, deployed 3 storage pest monitoring points in the main cotton warehouse, and placed dozens of new traps.

Since 2012 alone, Zhangjiagang port has intercepted the internationally recognized most dangerous storage pest, the grain beetle, from the entry cotton for 5 consecutive times.

In the first 5 months of this year, Zhangjiagang imported 816 batches of cotton and weighed 261 thousand tons, with a value of 480 million US dollars, down 14.3%, 10.3% and 30.4%, respectively, but cotton imports still exceeded half of last year's total import volume (504 thousand tons).

Judging from the country's situation, as of June 16, 2013, the stock of India's cotton bank has reached 65 thousand tons, a record high since the current year, while Uzbekistan cotton's inventory is the most obvious drop, and now it drops to about 10 thousand tons, down 97.2% from last week.

At the same time, the bureau implements classified management of imported cotton warehousing enterprises, achieves full coverage of the inspection, and launches a number of service measures such as direct release, vehicle weighing, real weight declaration, and time limit certification in the import and export of cotton inspection and quarantine, so as to create a fast and convenient inspection and quarantine clearance ring.
