Child Labour India Blacklist Of Clothing Exports

Because of the employment of child labour in India's clothing export industry, the US government has blacklisted India for third years in a row, which makes the future global brand purchase more misgivings in India.

Several attempts have been made to convince the US government that this is not the case, but the executive order list still lists India.

"Therefore, no matter which brand we do, we have to prove that we are innocent," said Rajendra Hinduja, head of Gokaldas export company in Bangalore.

The company's clients include:

Nike

Reebok, Old Navy, Abercrombie and Fitch, Adidas, diesel and Levi 's.

40 companies in southern India employ 37000 people, and Hinduja predicts that in the next few days, India exporters of clothing will do a lot of written work.

India, which is worth $11 billion 160 million, appears on the US executive order 13126 list.

The industry will accept challenges, because Western consumers are very sensitive, and they boycott those products made in sweatshops.

Since the United States issued a formal child labour statement, the Brand Company will need to explain their trade with India.

The United States will submit a notice of caution indicating that they must do Due Diligence (DD) before doing trade with India.

India's contribution to global apparel trade is 3%, and India has gained 30% of its trade from American consumers.

The executive order list prevents tainted countries from trading with the US federal government in certain areas.

The current list was released by the US Department of labor in May 31, 2011.

According to the insiders, the list makers did not separate domestic industries from exporters.

The exporter said that although sari and Zari embroidery enterprises employed child labor to cater for the India market, the clothing export industry gained a bad reputation.

Last month, the India Clothing Export Promotion Committee retorted the United States, but it was too late to restore the overall situation.

The United States once raised suspicions in a report that it found 6 million 700 thousand children in India's clothing export industry had 4 child labor.

Temporarily speaking, the trade with the US government, which is labeled as an industry that employs child labor, will seriously hamper India's future trade.

A clothing company official said, because the India clothing industry has issued erroneous information, so now customers continue to strengthen the supervision of factories.

Brand Company sends independent agencies to monitor India enterprises.

At least three brands come to visit the factory every week, talk to employees, understand working conditions, overtime and forced labor.

After being blacklisted by the United States, India exporters will be hard pressed to get new orders.
